Vier werken zonder titel

Hieronder vindt u vier werken, die ik in één blog
publiceer zonder veel commentaar. De eerste drie
zijn beelden in hout: een abstract en een ballerina
in Douglas spar, daaronder een bas-relief in
multiplex en tenslotte drie kleine beeldjes in
terracotta.
Alleen de bovenste is nog beschikbaar.

“Four untitled works”

Below you will find four works combined in one post,

without much comment. The first three are sculptures
in wood.
The first is an abstract (a “twinned” sculpture)
and the second is a dancer, both in Douglas fir.
Underneath those is a bas-relief in plywood.
And finally, the three small figurines are in terracotta.
Only the first is still available.

Zes beelden in Pf. Sandstein

In de afgelopen maanden heb ik me vooral bezig gehouden
met het maken van beelden in Bunte Pfälzische Sandstein.
Ik heb over dat materiaal in eerdere publicaties al uitgebreid
uitgewijd en zal dat nu niet allemaal herhalen.
Sterker nog, ik heb nu zes beelden samengevoegd in één
bericht. Het zijn, zoals u ziet, drie geometrische vormen en
drie gestileerde, figuratieve beelden. Alle beelden hebben
min of meer de typische eigenschappen van deze zandsteen,
nl. mooie laagstructuur, pockets van ongesinterd zand en
in de steen "ingebouwde" kiezeltjes.
Deze beelden zijn geschikt als tuinbeeld: weerbestendig.
De hoogte varieert van 43 tot 60 cm, inckusief
de arduin sokkel, de prijs varieert van 150 tot 450 euro.

Six sculptures in Pfálzische Sandstein

In recent months, I have been concentrating on sculpting

in Bunte Pfälzische sandstone. In earlier posts,  I discussed

this material so I will not repeat it here.

I am combining six sculptures in this message: three stylized,
figurative sculptures and three geometric abstracts.
All sculptures show the typical attributes of this sandstone,
 i.e. nice layer structure, pockets of unfused (loose) sand
and embedded pebbles.
These works are suitable as garden statuary: weatherproof.
The heights vary from 43 to 60 cm, inclusive of the bluestone plinths.
The prices range from 150 to 450 Euros.

Élégance

Dit beeld is -evenals het vorige- gemaakt van serpentijn (cobalt ).
De eigenschappen van het materiaal zijn ook vrijwel identiek.
Ik heb het aan twee zijden gefotografeerd, om een betere indruk
van de pose te geven.
De afmetingen zijn: 55x10x18 (hxbxd; hoogte incl. arduin sokkel).
Het beeld is niet meer beschikbaar.

Elegance

This sculpture is, like the previous one, made of serpentine (cobalt).
The properties of the material are almost identical.
I photographed it from both sides, to give a better impression
of the pose.
The dimensions are: 55x10x18 cm (HxWxD, height includes
bluestone plinth).
The sculpture is no longer available.

Verliefd Paar uit Neustadt/Haart

Dit is wederom een beeld in "Bunte Pfälzische Sandstein",
waarvan we bij ons laatste bezoek aan vrienden daar, een
aantal brokken meegebracht hebben. Dit stuk vertoont
alle typische kenmerken van dit materiaal: bonte
laagsstructuur, ingebouwde kiezeltjes en holtes (pockets),
waarover ik eerder gesproken heb.
Als die pockets op een storende plek zitten, probeer ik
ze wel eens op te vullen met een of ander weerbestendig
materiaal (b.v. autoplamuur gemengd met korreltjes van
deze steen). Soms lukt dat aardig en soms is het minder
succesvol.
Ik heb het beeldje op een arduin sokkeltje geplaatst.
De afmetingen zijn: 50x20x13 cm (hxbxd, incl sokkel)
Dit beeld is niet meer beschikbaar.

Amorous couple from Neustadt/Haart

This is another statue in Bunte Pfälzische sandstone.
We brought home some pieces from the quarry there,

after visiting friends in Neustadt.

This sculpture shows all typical characteristics of this
material: multi-colored
layer structure, embedded pebbles and cavities (pockets).
I addressed these items earlier.
If those pockets appear in a nasty place, I sometimes
try to fill them with weatherproof material (e.g. polyester
filler mixed with granules of this stone). Sometimes
it works and sometimes the result is disappointing.
My opinion: leave the material as it appears! 
No filler was used on this piece.
I placed the statue on a blue stone pedestal.
The dimensions are: 50x20x13 cm (HxWxD,
including pedestal). 
This sculpture is no longer available.

Geometrisch figuur

Voor de "broodnodige variatie" heb ik dit beeld aan meerdere
zijden gefotografeerd. Het is een abstract beeld, waarin ik
gespeeld heb met geometrische vormen, die ik op deze
manier wat uitgebreider kan laten zien. Het beeld is gemaakt
in "Bunte Pfälzische Sandstein".
Ik heb dit materiaal al eerder verwerkt in meer figuratieve
beeldjes (zie eerdere berichten); dit is een stuk steen, dat erg
"gaaf" is, d.w.z. een mooie laagstructuur heeft en opvallend
weinig "pockets" van niet gesinterd materiaal vertoont.
Ik heb deze steen aan de groeve in Neustadt-Weinstrasze
gehaald.
De steen is sowieso geschikt voor buiten, maar ik heb hem
bovendien behandeld, zodat hij waterafstotend is.
Hij staat op een arduin sokkel.
De afmetingen zijn ongeveer: 60(incl. sokkel)x30x15 cm;
het gewicht is +/- 27 kg.
De prijs is: 400 euro.

Geometrical Figure

I photographed this work from several perspectives.

It is an abstract sculpture in which I played with geometric

shapes, which I can show better in this way.
The statue was made in Bunte Pfälzische sandstone.
I have used this material in more figurative works

(see previous posts). This piece of stone is very

homogeneous, i.e. a nice layer structure and remarkably

few pockets of non-sintered material.
I purchased this stone at the quarry in Neustadt-Weinstrasze.
The stone itself is suitable for outdoor use. I treated it to make

it water-repellent.
It is on a blue stone base.
The dimensions are approximately: 60 (incl. base) x30x15 cm;
weight is + / - 27 kg.
The price: 400 Euros.

 

Gouvernante

Dit beeld is gemaakt van kersenhout. Het is wat stijl betreft,
familie van "Geborgenheid", een beeld, dat ik eerder

beschreven heb.
In dit beeld komt het spelen met de doorsnijding met de

jaarringen van het hout erg duidelijk tot uitdrukking.

De lijnen die zo gevormd worden, accentueren de vormen

van het beeld erg fraai, wat een extra dimensie aan het geheel geeft.
De afmetingen van het beeld zijn: +/- 84x20x15 cm.
Het beeld is naar een nieuwe eigenaresse overgegaan, die er heel

blij mee is; ze heeft het een prominente plaats in de entree-hal

van haar woning gegeven en het zelf de titel "Gouvernante"

meegegeven.

Governess

This statue is made of cherry wood. The style is comparable

to “Security”, a sculpture I described previously.
The intersection of growth rings of the wood with the surface

contours causes lines on the figure which accentuate

the shapes in a beautiful way, giving added dimension to the whole.
The dimensions of the sculpture are: + / - 84x20x15 cm.
This piece was passed to a new owner. She is very happy with it.

She gave it a prominent place in the entrance hall of her house
and called it “Governess”.

Installatie

Dit tuinbeeld is een installatie van: tropische palm, wilgenhouten
bollen, sisaltouw en bamboe. De stam van tropische palm heb ik
in de lengte middendoor gezaagd en het binnenste hout
verwijderd, omdat het totaal verweerd was. De twee "schalen",
waarin ik drie ellipsvormige gaten gemaakt heb, zijn ruggelings
tegenover elkaar geplaatst. Daar tussenin zijn de drie
ellipsvormige bollen opgehangen, die met sisaltouw aan elkaar
verbonden zijn en m.b.v een paar stukjes bamboe aan de twee
palmschalen opgehangen. De bollen hangen voor de openingen
in de schalen.
Ik heb in eerdere berichten al gemeld, dat ik vaak iets doe met
ei-vormen; Welnu in dit beeld zijn een groot aantal ei-vormen
"verwerkt".
Al die ellipsen, die je min of meer tegelijk ziet, geven een leuk
effect en het geheel lijkt te bewegen als je er langs loopt.
Soms doen de schaduwen van het zonlicht hier nog een schepje
bovenop.
Alles is m.b. v. lijnolie geïmpregneerd.
Inclusief sokkel is het beeld ongeveer 1.80 m hoog.
Het werk staat in onze achtertuin en is voorlopig niet te koop.

Installation

This garden statue is an installation of: tropical palm,

willow wood balls, bamboo and sisal rope. I cut the stem

of tropical palm lengthwise and removed the remaining

heartwood, because it had deteriorated.

In the two curved planks, I made three elliptical holes.
Then I positioned the two planks back-to-back (see photo).
In between them, three elliptical balls are positioned
in such a way, that they appear in the openings.
The balls are connected to each other with sisal robe
and they are attached to the palm planks with two small
pieces of bamboo. (The photo says more than a thousand words!!)
I mentioned in previous descriptions, that egg shapes appear
frequently in my sculptures. Well, in this work there are an
almost “countless” number of them!
One sees all these ellipses more or less simultaneously.
The whole gives the impression of movement, when you walk by.
The shadows in sunlight also reinforce that impression.
All components are impregnated with linseed oil.
Including the pedestal, the whole is about 1.80 m high.
The work is in our garden and is currently not for sale.
