Gildekoning

Een aantal jaren geleden is hier in Budel een groot gildefeest
geweest met o.a. een optocht van diverse gildes, waarbij de
uitdossing van vooral de diverse koningen nogal indruk maakte.
Ik was toen bezig met dit beeld en heel spontaan kwam het in
me op, om het als titel "Gildekoning" mee te geven, vooral
door de bonte kleuren, de hoge kraag en de chique uitstraling.
In dit beeld zijn ook weer de ei-vormen en de strak verlopende
lijnen te zien, waar ik me graag mee bezig houd.
Het is gemaakt uit een fraaie serpentijn en staat op een arduin
sokkel.
Het beeld is overgegaan naar een andere eigenaar, die er heel
blij mee is, maar een wat andere associatie met dit beeld heeft.
De afmetingen zijn: 63x17x18 cm (hxbxd), incl. sokkel.

Guild King

(A guild is an association for mutual aid and the promotion

of common interests. They originate from medieval times) 

A few years ago a big guild convention was held here in Budel.
The climax was a parade of a great many guilds, in which
the various kings, in particular, drew my attention.
I was working on this sculpture at the time and
the name "Guild King" came to my mind. That was mainly

because of the variegated colors, high collars and chic looks.
As in many of my works, egg shapes and tight gradient
lines are clearly visible. My favorites!
The stone is a beautiful serpentine. It is placed on a
blue stone base.
The sculpture is transferred to another owner, who very
happy with it.

She has a different association with it.
The dimensions are: 63x17x18 cm (HxWxD),
including base.

Burgemeester

Dit beeld heeft de titel "Burgemeester" meegekregen

vanwege de pose, die toch wel een beetje autoriteit

uitstraalt, vanwege zijn welvaartsbuikje, en omdat hij

er zo "strak in de plooi" bij staat. Voor de variatie laat ik

het beeld "en face" zien en een slagje gedraaid.

Het is gemaakt in een mooie soort serpentijn (cobalt)

met een prachtige tekening erin; het staat op een

arduin sokkeltje.

Het beeld past perfect in het interieur (modern

"black and white") van de koper, die er erg mee in zijn

nopjes is!

De afmetingen zijn ongeveer: 56x15x10 cm (hxbxd)

Mayor

The name of this sculpture, "Mayor", relates to the pose,

which radiates authority because of his ample belly and

neatly pressed attire.

I took one photo “en face” and the other one slightly turned.
It is made in a nice type of serpentine (cobalt)
with beautiful layer structure.
It is placed on a bluestone pedestal.
The sculpture fits perfectly in the interior (modern
black and white) of the buyer, who is very pleased with it.
The dimensions are approximately 56x15x10 cm (HxWxD)

Hofdame

Dit beeld is ontstaan rond de "Derde dinsdag in september"
met al zijn pracht en praal, met lakeien, livreien, prinsen
en princessen en ... hofdames.
Het heeft zeer weinig details, waardoor de schoonheid van de
steen des te meer tot zijn recht komt.
Het is een vrij groot beeld, vervaardigd in Serpentijn Limoen,
met een prachtig kleurverloop.
De afmetingen zijn: 79x22x13 cm (hxbxd).
Het beeld heeft inmiddels een mooi plekje gevonden in de
woonkamer van een ander echtpaar, dat er erg blij mee is.

Lady-in-Waiting

This sculpture was created around the “Third Tuesday in
September ",  the Dutch Speech from the Throne Day
(“State of the Union address”), with all its pomp and
circumstance, with lackeys, livery, princes and princesses
and ...ladies-in-waiting.
The figure has very little detail but still radiates dignity.
 More attention is attracted by the beauty of the stone.
It is a fairly large piece, produced in Lime Serpentine
with marvelous colors.
The dimensions are: 79x22x13 cm (HxWxD).
This sculpture has found a nice spot in the
living room of another couple and they are very happy with it.

Ritme

Dit beeld, een reliëf, is gemaakt van Portugees leisteen/marmer.

Het is vrij lastig te bewerken, omdat er gemakkelijk stukjes

afvallen, als je aan het hakken bent. Het is dus zaak, om zoveel

mogelijk te slijpen en bewerkingen, die trillingen in de steen

veroorzaken, te vermijden.

De titel "Ritme" slaat op de herhaling van patronen en de

beweging, die er in zit.

Het weegt nu nog 75 kg en is blind bevestigd tegen een muurtje

aan de voorkant van ons huis (Wolfswinkel 24 in Budel).

De afmetingen zijn: 70x75 cm, de dikte varieert (5-8 cm)

Rhythm

This statue, a relief, is made of Portuguese slate / marble.
It is pretty tough to work with this material, because parts

of the stone can loosen spontaneously from a different place

than where one is chipping.

This is caused by vibrations. (“Earthquakes”!!)
So most of the work was done by grinding.
The title "Rhythm” refers to the repetition of patterns and
movement, which are in it.
It weighs 75 kg and it is mounted against a wall in front

of our house (24 Wolfswinkel in Budel).
The dimensions are: 70x75 cm, thickness varies (5-8 cm)

Zandsteen beeldjes

Dit zijn drie beeldjes, die vervaardigd zijn uit "Bunte Pfälzische
Sandstein. Ik heb die stenen gehaald in de groeve in Neustadt
an der Weinstrasze in het stadsdeel Haart. Wij hebben daar
kennissen.
Deze steen vertoont, als je een beetje geluk hebt, een mooie
laagstructuur, waardoor hij er wat "bont" uitziet; vandaar
de naam, denk ik!
Verder zitten er door de hele steen zgn holtes, pockets, van
ongesinterd zand. De steen is vrij goed te bewerken, maar
gevaarlijk voor je longen (silicose, dus bril en stofkap)
en voor het gereedschap: zand in de lagers.
De beeldjes zijn geschikt voor buiten.
Het rechtse beeldje op deze foto is nog te koop (300 euro).
De afmetingen zijn: 45x17x15 (op arduin sokkel).

Three sculptures in sandstone

These three statues are made from "Bunte Pfälzische”
sandstone. I purchased the raw material at the quarry in

Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, in the district of Haart,

Germany. We have friends there.

Some characteristics of this material are: nice layered structure,

cavities of un-sintered, loose sand and embedded pebbles.
The stone is pretty easy to work with, but the dust is harmful

to your lungs (silicosis), so protection is a must!
And the grinder doesn’t like the sand in its bearings!

The figurines are suitable for outdoor use.
Only the figure on the right in this picture is still for sale (300 Euros).
The dimensions are: 45x17x15 cm (on Belgian blue stone base).

Luce

Van dit beeld laat ik voor de variatie diverse stadia

van "wording" zien. In de foto boven rechts het eerste

ontwerp op papier.

Links het model geboetseerd in klei en in het midden

het beeld in albast vóór het polijsten.

Op de foto daaronder het kant en klare beeld op een

arduin sokkel.

Dit is en vrij zuivere albast, waardoor het enigszins

doorschijnend is (De titel "Luce" verwijst daar naar).

Daar heb ik gebruik van gemaakt, door het beeld

in het midden vrij dun te maken.

Dit geeft een mooi effect, als het in tegenlicht wordt

opgesteld. (Niet op deze foto).
N.B.: de "onvermijdelijke" ei-vormen zijn er weer!.

De afmetingen zijn ongeveer: 30x25x15 cm

Het beeld is niet meer beschikbaar.

Luce

In the top photo I show, for a change, three stages of

“becoming” of this sculpture.

On the right is the first design on paper, on the left is

the design modeled in clay and in the middle, the work

in alabaster before polishing.
In the picture below is the finished piece on a bluestone plinth.
This is fairly pure alabaster, without impurities, so it is

quite translucent (The title "Luce" refers to this property).
I have exploited this phenomenon by making the central

part of the figure rather thin.
This gives a nice effect, when it is positioned against the light.

(Not visible in the picture).
Note: the inevitable “egg-shapes” are there.
The dimensions are approximately 30x25x15 cm.
The sculpture is no longer available.

Geborgenheid

Dit is en vrij groot gestileerd beeld gemaakt uit één stam
kersenhout. De doorsijdingen met de jaarringen geven
een fraaie accentuering van de vormen van het beeld,
hoewel dat op deze foto helaas niet zo goed te zien is.
Met een minimum aan details is in dit beeld toch en
soort geborgenheid tot uitdrukking gebracht.
Materiaal: Kersenhout, onverlijmd.
Afwerking: fijn geschuurd; lijnolie.
Afmetingen: 100x20x12 cm
Prijs: 900 euro.

Security

This is quite a large and stylized sculpture made from

a solid piece of cherry wood. The intersections of the

growth rings bring about a beautiful accentuation of

the shapes of the figures, although it is not so clearly

visible in this photo.
A sense of security is expressed in this sculpture

using little detail.
Material: Cherry wood, solid (not glued). .
Finish: sanded, linseed oil.
Dimensions: 100x20x12 cm
Price: 900 Euros.
