Torso

Deze torso is gemaakt van een mooie,
maar zeer broze speksteen soort (Chinees?),
waardoor het bij het bewerken vrij gemakkelijk
afschilfert.
Door het verschil in hardheid in het materiaal
is het polijsten ook lastig. Maar als het dat allemaal
overleefd heeft, is het toch een erg leuk beeldje,
vind ik en dat vinden de nieuwe eigenaren ook!

This torso was sculpted from of a beautiful,

 but very friable, type of soapstone (Chinese?).
 Fragments can drop away quite easily during sculpting.
 Polishing is also somewhat cumbersome, because of
 the differences in hardness within the material.
 But, having overcome all these perils, the result is a
 lovely  figurine in both my view and that of
 the new owners!.

Linda

"Linda" is een levensgroot beeld, gemaakt in
polyester en met brons-patina bewerkt.
Het is een studie naar model(Linda),
gemaakt op de kunstacademie.
Ik heb het beeld geplaatst op de vijver bij
ons vorige huis en de waterhoentjes waren
er zo mee in hun nopjes, dat ze een nestje
bouwden achter de billen van Linda.
Later hebben ze van rietstengels zelfs een
soort laddertje gemaakt voor de kuikentjes,
om terug in het nest te kunnen klimmen.
Dat was superleuk om mee te maken.

“Linda”

"Linda" is a life-sized sculpture, made of polyester
with a bronze patina coating.
She is a study of a model (Linda), created at
the Art Academy.
I installed the sculpture on a platform in the pond at
our previous house. Wild moorhens were so delighted
that they built a nest behind Linda’s bottom!
Later, they even created a kind of ladder for the
hatched chicks, to climb from the water back into the nest.
That was great fun to watch!

"Miss America"

In dit bericht laat ik vier verschillende uitvoeringen
zien van eenzelfde relief (dat ik een beetje ondeugend
"Miss America" genoemd heb).
Het bovenste is het "origineel" in polyester en
daaronder de uitvoering in multiplex, zoals die ook
te zien is in een vorig bericht.
De doorsnijding met de diverse lagen hout
geeft een interessant effect.
(Deze versie van “Miss America” siert nu het centraal
punt van een woonkamer op Mercer Island, WA, USA,
zeer tot genoegen van de bewoners!)
Daaronder een wat slankere uitvoering in wilgenhout
en tenslotte eenzelfde uitvoering, die vervolgens
in stukjes gezaagd is en weer aan elkaar gemaakt
met kleine tussenruimtes.
Een beetje "Spielerei" maar wel leuk om te doen.

“Miss America "

In this post, I show different approaches to the same

relief concept (which I naughtily named "Miss America").

The top one is the "original" in polyester.  Below that is
an implementation in plywood (also shown in the previous post).
Sectioning through the various layers of wood gives
an interesting contour effect.
(The laminated version of “Miss America” now occupies the
focal point of a living room on Mercer Island, WA,
much to the happiness of her new caretakers).
Below that one, I show a somewhat slimmer example
in willow wood and finally, the same implementation,
which  I subsequently cut into lateral pieces and reassembled
with uniform small gaps.
A bit of a "gimmick", but fun to do.

Scheve torso

Deze scheve torso is gemaakt van Indiaas Serpentijn.
Het is een vrij groot beeld (totaal 65x30).
Het materiaal is na polijsten vrijwel zwart.
Dit beeld is niet meer beschikbaar.

“Skewed torso”
This skewed torso is made from Indian Serpentine.
It is a fairly large piece (65 cm x30 cm).
After polishing, the material is almost black.
This sculpture in no longer available.

Vier werken zonder titel

Hieronder vindt u vier werken, die ik in één blog
publiceer zonder veel commentaar. De eerste drie
zijn beelden in hout: een abstract en een ballerina
in Douglas spar, daaronder een bas-relief in
multiplex en tenslotte drie kleine beeldjes in
terracotta.
Alleen de bovenste is nog beschikbaar.

“Four untitled works”

Below you will find four works combined in one post,

without much comment. The first three are sculptures
in wood.
The first is an abstract (a “twinned” sculpture)
and the second is a dancer, both in Douglas fir.
Underneath those is a bas-relief in plywood.
And finally, the three small figurines are in terracotta.
Only the first is still available.

Zes beelden in Pf. Sandstein

In de afgelopen maanden heb ik me vooral bezig gehouden
met het maken van beelden in Bunte Pfälzische Sandstein.
Ik heb over dat materiaal in eerdere publicaties al uitgebreid
uitgewijd en zal dat nu niet allemaal herhalen.
Sterker nog, ik heb nu zes beelden samengevoegd in één
bericht. Het zijn, zoals u ziet, drie geometrische vormen en
drie gestileerde, figuratieve beelden. Alle beelden hebben
min of meer de typische eigenschappen van deze zandsteen,
nl. mooie laagstructuur, pockets van ongesinterd zand en
in de steen "ingebouwde" kiezeltjes.
Deze beelden zijn geschikt als tuinbeeld: weerbestendig.
De hoogte varieert van 43 tot 60 cm, inckusief
de arduin sokkel, de prijs varieert van 150 tot 450 euro.

Six sculptures in Pfálzische Sandstein

In recent months, I have been concentrating on sculpting

in Bunte Pfälzische sandstone. In earlier posts,  I discussed

this material so I will not repeat it here.

I am combining six sculptures in this message: three stylized,
figurative sculptures and three geometric abstracts.
All sculptures show the typical attributes of this sandstone,
 i.e. nice layer structure, pockets of unfused (loose) sand
and embedded pebbles.
These works are suitable as garden statuary: weatherproof.
The heights vary from 43 to 60 cm, inclusive of the bluestone plinths.
The prices range from 150 to 450 Euros.

Élégance

Dit beeld is -evenals het vorige- gemaakt van serpentijn (cobalt ).
De eigenschappen van het materiaal zijn ook vrijwel identiek.
Ik heb het aan twee zijden gefotografeerd, om een betere indruk
van de pose te geven.
De afmetingen zijn: 55x10x18 (hxbxd; hoogte incl. arduin sokkel).
Het beeld is niet meer beschikbaar.

Elegance

This sculpture is, like the previous one, made of serpentine (cobalt).
The properties of the material are almost identical.
I photographed it from both sides, to give a better impression
of the pose.
The dimensions are: 55x10x18 cm (HxWxD, height includes
bluestone plinth).
The sculpture is no longer available.
