Zandsteen beeldjes

Dit zijn drie beeldjes, die vervaardigd zijn uit "Bunte Pfälzische
Sandstein. Ik heb die stenen gehaald in de groeve in Neustadt
an der Weinstrasze in het stadsdeel Haart. Wij hebben daar
kennissen.
Deze steen vertoont, als je een beetje geluk hebt, een mooie
laagstructuur, waardoor hij er wat "bont" uitziet; vandaar
de naam, denk ik!
Verder zitten er door de hele steen zgn holtes, pockets, van
ongesinterd zand. De steen is vrij goed te bewerken, maar
gevaarlijk voor je longen (silicose, dus bril en stofkap)
en voor het gereedschap: zand in de lagers.
De beeldjes zijn geschikt voor buiten.
Het rechtse beeldje op deze foto is nog te koop (300 euro).
De afmetingen zijn: 45x17x15 (op arduin sokkel).

Three sculptures in sandstone

These three statues are made from "Bunte Pfälzische”
sandstone. I purchased the raw material at the quarry in

Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, in the district of Haart,

Germany. We have friends there.

Some characteristics of this material are: nice layered structure,

cavities of un-sintered, loose sand and embedded pebbles.
The stone is pretty easy to work with, but the dust is harmful

to your lungs (silicosis), so protection is a must!
And the grinder doesn’t like the sand in its bearings!

The figurines are suitable for outdoor use.
Only the figure on the right in this picture is still for sale (300 Euros).
The dimensions are: 45x17x15 cm (on Belgian blue stone base).

Luce

Van dit beeld laat ik voor de variatie diverse stadia

van "wording" zien. In de foto boven rechts het eerste

ontwerp op papier.

Links het model geboetseerd in klei en in het midden

het beeld in albast vóór het polijsten.

Op de foto daaronder het kant en klare beeld op een

arduin sokkel.

Dit is en vrij zuivere albast, waardoor het enigszins

doorschijnend is (De titel "Luce" verwijst daar naar).

Daar heb ik gebruik van gemaakt, door het beeld

in het midden vrij dun te maken.

Dit geeft een mooi effect, als het in tegenlicht wordt

opgesteld. (Niet op deze foto).
N.B.: de "onvermijdelijke" ei-vormen zijn er weer!.

De afmetingen zijn ongeveer: 30x25x15 cm

Luce

In the top photo I show, for a change, three stages of

“becoming” of this sculpture.

On the right is the first design on paper, on the left is

the design modeled in clay and in the middle, the work

in alabaster before polishing.
In the picture below is the finished piece on a bluestone plinth.
This is fairly pure alabaster, without impurities, so it is

quite translucent (The title "Luce" refers to this property).
I have exploited this phenomenon by making the central

part of the figure rather thin.
This gives a nice effect, when it is positioned against the light.

(Not visible in the picture).
Note: the inevitable “egg-shapes” are there.
The dimensions are approximately 30x25x15 cm.
The sculpture is no longer available.

Geborgenheid

Dit is en vrij groot gestileerd beeld gemaakt uit één stam
kersenhout. De doorsijdingen met de jaarringen geven
een fraaie accentuering van de vormen van het beeld,
hoewel dat op deze foto helaas niet zo goed te zien is.
Met een minimum aan details is in dit beeld toch en
soort geborgenheid tot uitdrukking gebracht.
Materiaal: Kersenhout, onverlijmd.
Afwerking: fijn geschuurd; lijnolie.
Afmetingen: 100x20x12 cm
Prijs: 900 euro.

Security

This is quite a large and stylized sculpture made from

a solid piece of cherry wood. The intersections of the

growth rings bring about a beautiful accentuation of

the shapes of the figures, although it is not so clearly

visible in this photo.
A sense of security is expressed in this sculpture

using little detail.
Material: Cherry wood, solid (not glued). .
Finish: sanded, linseed oil.
Dimensions: 100x20x12 cm
Price: 900 Euros.

Eén-keiïge tweeling

Aan dit beeld met een wat merkwaardige titel zit een leuk
verhaal vast.
Toen ik een paar uur aan deze steen gewerkt had, brak hij
plotseling in twee stukken. Eerst had ik natuurlijk stevig
de pest in, maar toen dacht ik plotseling aan een opdracht,
die we op de academie ooit gehad hadden:
"Maak twee abstracte beelden, die samen weer één
harmonieus beeld vormen".
En toen kreeg ik het idee voor dit beeld. Ik vind het zelf
erg leuk, voor een deel ook vanwege dit verhaal.
De vormen lopen mooi van het ene deel in het andere over
en de aandachtige kijker/lezer heeft wellicht ook
"mijn" ei-vormen al ontdekt!!
Materiaal: Braziliaanse speksteen op houten sokkel.

“Uniovural” twin in stone

The story of this sculpture, with its rather odd name is quite

funny and remarkable.
After I had worked with this stone for a few hours,

it suddenly broke into two pieces. First, I could have kicked

 myself when this happened, but then my thoughts flashed

back to an assignment I had to do once at the academy

of arts: “Make two abstract figures that will form one

homogeneous sculpture together”.
And then I got the idea for this sculpture.

Personally I like it very much probably because of this story!
The various shapes flow smoothly from one part to the next.
The attentive viewer/reader may also have discovered
“my” egg shapes!
Material: Brazilian soapstone on a wooden base.

OASE in Budel-Dorplein

"OASE" in Budel-Dorplein is een opdracht van de gemeente.
Het is een (historisch) monument, dat de gemeente Cranandonck
uit zes inzendingen gekozen heeft.
Karel Latten (helaas op 12-08-2009 overleden) en ik hebben
dit monument samen ontworpen en gemaakt.
We hebben er veel symboliek ingelegd.

De naam "OASE" is verklaard in onderstaande tekstplaat.
De drie roestvrijstalen zuilen verbeelden de (schoorstenen van de)
zinkfabriek. De drie bronzen panelen stellen drie karakteristieke
gebouwen van Budel-Dorplein voor:
de zinkfabriek (zie afbeelding), de "kantine" en de neo-romaanse
kerk. Ze zijn opzichtig opgehangen aan de drie zuilen.
Dorplein ontleent zijn naam aan de Fam. Dor, directeuren van de
zinkfabriek.

Het geheel staat in een zeshoekig waterbasin, voorstellende de
zes kernen van de gemeente Cranendonck.
Voor deze gelegenheid staat Dorplein uiteraard in het centrum
van dit basin, dat op zijn beurt weer verwijst naar het drassige
gebied en de fraaie vennen van Dorplein.
De "OASE" staat op het terrein bij de "Schakel".

OASIS in Budel-Dorplein

"OASIS" in Budel-Dorplein was commissioned by the municipality

to commemorate the history of the region.

Our design was selected from among five other entries.
Karel Latten (unfortunately deceased on 2009 (August 12) and I

jointly designed and built this monument.

We put much symbolism in this work.

The three stainless steel columns represent the smoke stacks

of the zinc factory. The three bronze panels depict three

characteristic buildings in Budel-Dorplein: the zinc factory

(see picture), the “canteen” (as it is called in popular speech;

in fact it is a multi-functional building) and the neo-Romanesque

church. They are suspended from the three columns, symbolizing

the strong dependency of Budel-Dorplein on the zinc factory

for a long period of time.
Dorplein has its name from the Dor families, the first directors

of the zinc factory.
The monument itself is placed in a hexagonal water basin,

representing the six regions of the Cranendonck municipality.
For this occasion, Dorplein is obviously in the center.
The basin in turn refers to the marshy area and the beautiful

lakes of Dorplein.
The "OASIS" is on the square near  " De Schakel".

Mol van Buul

Dit beeld is gemaakt ter gelegenheid van het 25-jarig bestaan
van Grondverzetbedrijf Gebr. Jan en Wil Kuppens te Budel.
Het is als geschenk aangeboden aan het bedrijf door
de personeelsvereniging.
De overeenkomst tussen de activiteiten van het bedrijf
en een mol is evident: grond verplaatsen en -vooral in de
carnavalstijd- noemen de broers zich graag "De Mol van Buul",
vandaar dus. Daarom ook de wat ludieke uitvoering van een
mol met schop en pet, die zittend op z'n molshoop het geheel
met trots en gezag overziet.
Het beeld is gemaakt ik "cuglaton" een krimvrije,
weerbestendige betonsoort. Het beeld staat opgesteld
in de tuin, vlak voor het kantoor van het bedrijf
Meemortel 29, 6021 AD Budel) en is vrij te bezichtigen,
als de grote poort open is.

The Mole of Buul   (Buul is the dialect name for Budel)

This sculpture was created to mark the 25th Anniversary of the
Excavation Company of F. Jan and Wil Kuppens, Budel.
It was a gift to the company from the employees.
The connection between the company's activities
and a mole is clear: soil transfer.

Particularly at carnival time, the brothers Jan and Wil like to call
themselves: The Moles of Buul. So, that’s why!!
That is also the reason for the playful version of a mole with
shovel and hat, sitting proudly on its molehill, looking over
 things with dignity and authority!!
The material of this sculpture is "Cuglaton" a shrink-free,
weatherproof type of concrete. It is placed on the company
property close to the office building at Meemortel 29,
6021 AD Budel.
Visitors are welcome to view it, when the main gate to the
plant is open.

Beweging

Dit abstracte beeld is gemaakt in gewapend polyester,

een zeer weerbestendig materiaal; staat al meer dan tien jaar

in weer en wind in onze tuin. Het heeft intussen wel een andere,

vierkante sokkel gekregen. Ik heb het beeld "Beweging"

genoemd, omdat, als je er omheen loopt in de tuin, lijkt alsof

het beeld beweegt. Dat komt door zijn open vormen,

die dan a.h.w. voor elkaar langs schuiven.

Als de zon erop schijnt geeft dat ook heel leuke schaduwen.

Het is een van mijn afstudeerwerken aan de kunstacademie.

Een foto van dit beeld in opgenomen in de verjaardag kalender,

die de gemeente Cranendonck als relatiegeschenk geeft;

daar ben ik natuurlijk wel een beetje trots op!

De afmetingen van het beeld zijn: 95x65x60 cm (excl. sokkel)

Het beeld is niet te koop.

Movement

This abstract sculpture is made of reinforced polyester,
a highly weather-resistant material. It has been in our garden

for over ten years in all weather. I call it "Movement",

because if you walk around in the garden, and look

at the sculpture, it seems to move on its pedestal.

That is because of its open shapes, which then pass
in front of each other.
When the sun shines, the shadows reinforce this phenomenon.
It is one of my graduate works from the academy of arts.
A picture of this sculpture is included in the birthday calendar
of the municipality of Cranendonck,
(a present for business relations).
I am obviously a little bit proud of that!
The dimensions of the image are: 95x65x60 cm (excluding base).
The abstract is not for sale.
